Built in 1976 as an oceanographic research vessel for the Royal Dutch Navy, the ice-strengthened Plancius was designed for polar expedition cruises and now operates as a passenger vessel. The ship was completely rebuilt in 2012 and has excellent manoeuvrability through pack ice. The large bridge welcomes guests.
The ship features 53 cabins across five decks; each has private facilities and a flatscreen television, with exterior views. Cabins are available in a variety of configurations. On board there is a restaurant and lecture room and a spacious observation lounge with a bar; the latter has large windows, offering panoramic views.
