My name is Elena Larkin, founder of Tambo Travel. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, my passion for travel started at a very young age as I travelled with my parents around our country. Unsurprisingly, I decided to study tourism at university, and I’m still working in travel years later.
The name Tambo Travel comes from my ancestor’s language: Quechua. ‘Tampu’ means a rest house or ‘inn’ belonging to the state where the Inca and his entourage could rest.
Over the years, I’ve worked for a number of travel companies, hotel chains and leading Tour Operators not only in Peru but the UK too, and I lived in Cusco working for the Libertador Hotel chain as well as the Ministry of Tourism in Lima. I moved to London 25 years ago and I consider it home. I have travelled extensively in many countries at various times, primarily South America, Central America, and the majestic Antarctica and Europe.
The best part of my job has to be the challenge of making my clients’ dreams come true by sharing my experiences, knowledge and tips to ensure they have the perfect holiday. Some of my most memorable trips that I have organised have been for a group of archaeologists from a University in Scotland who visited most archaeological sites in Peru, including a guided tour with a famous local archaeologist in the north of the country; a secondary school class which took the trip of a lifetime to the Antarctic Peninsula; and, more recently, a chartered cruise to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands for a photographic tour.
I pride myself on my level of personal service and attention to detail. I have first-hand experience of organising tailor-made holidays to Latin America and the Polar Regions, and have consequently built excellent relationships with a number of ground handlers.
At Tambo Travel we know Latin America and the Polar Regions inside out, so whatever your requirements our aim is to provide you with the holiday of a lifetime.
